From a young age, I was taught to keep my hands busy. My grandmother often said, “If you’re sitting around watching a show, you might as well be knitting!” I’ve carried that mantra with me throughout my life, striving to create whenever I can. Whether it was taking a sewing class in high school or spontaneously redecorating my bedroom, I've always felt a strong need for a creative outlet.
After getting married, my husband and I moved to Hawaii for his school. I initially pursued a degree in Tourism and Hospitality, but quickly realized it wasn’t the right path for me. I switched to Graphic Design, where I thrived in the small, close-knit program and the hands-on guidance of my art professors. The natural beauty of Hawaii also provided endless inspiration, and I knew I had found my true calling.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, I transitioned into teaching art at a local elementary school. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience, and I loved seeing how my students grew in their artistic abilities.
When I had my first daughter, I took a break from teaching. During that time, I was offered a position with Kiwi Lane Designs as a scrapbook paper designer. Though I was new to pattern design, I dove in headfirst, learning through YouTube and Skillshare. After 8 years with Kiwi Lane, my passion for surface pattern design only grew. This passion has now led me to sell my designs on Spoonflower and Etsy. With rising fabric prices for crafters, I’m focused on making unique, affordable designs available to small shop owners without breaking the bank.
Today, I’m at home with my three girls, designing during nap times, enjoying weekends at the beach, and supporting my husband as he pursues his doctorate.
